Associate in Science in Social Work and Human Services for Transfer (AS-T)
This degree is designed to prepare students for a seamless transition to a California State University. Students completing this degree will have an introductory foundation for the field of social work through the study of legal and ethical issues, theories of practice and human behavior, history of social welfare and current policies. Students will acquire skills in critical thinking, case planning, crisis intervention, theory-based assessment, working knowledge of community resources and experience in a human services agency.
Programs Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of the historical evolution of social welfare policies and the social work profession, recognizing key milestones and influential figures.
- Students will be able to analyze how historic and contemporary social welfare policies affect vulnerable populations, how social conditions contribute to their vulnerability, and how these policies affect social justice and human rights.
- Identify the legal, ethical, and professional responsibilities associated with social work service delivery as demonstrated through class discussions, assignments, and work experience.
Transfer & Career Opportunities
This Associate in Arts in Human Services for Transfer (AA-T) Degree is intended to meet the lower division requirements for Social Work for all CSU campuses. Students planning to transfer to institutions other than the CSU are encouraged to consult ASSIST.org and a COS counselor for program planning and course selection. Most common career opportunities with a baccalaureate degree include social worker, government agencies such as child welfare services, hospital social work, criminal justice system, crisis management, substance abuse, aging services among many others.
