Certificate of Completion in Basic Welding Competency

Division: Industry & Technology

Students completing this certificate will acquire beginning-industry-level training in welding technology. Courses will include training in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), basic fabrication skills in mild steel, and basic welding skills in stainless steel utilizing Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Upon completion of this certificate: students will be able to setup, operate, and perform SMAW welds at entry-level quality; students will demonstrate basic-industry-level metal fabrication skills including measurements, cutting, squaring, and tack-up / fit-up; students will demonstrate basic-industry-setup and operational skills of GTAW as it applies to welding stainless steel.

Program Outcomes

  • Demonstrate safe work habits of an Industrial Shop to industry standards.
  • Perform out of position welds in SMAW and GMAW to beginning industry level.     
  • Perform basic GTAW welds on stainless tubing to beginning level industry standards.

Career Opportunities

Upon successful completion of this certificate, students will be prepared for employment in basic laborer positions within fabrication facilities not requiring precision skill.
